The IHA has a long history of encouraging proper storage of collections, and since 1991 has offered archival supplies at discounted prices to members.
Because some of our individual and smaller institutional members have found it a convenience to buy in small amounts, the IHA will continue to carry a selected number of archival materials repackaged in small quantities.
A list of these materials is below
ACID-FREE TISSUE PAPER. Unbuffered, pH neutral. Suitable for use with silk, wool, combination fabrics, and protein-based artifacts.
PERMALIFE 20# BOND PAPER. Acid and lignin free, pH 8.0, with calcium carbonate buffer. Ideal for permanent records, permanent copies, document interleaving. Do not put in direct contact with photographs.
WHITE COTTON GLOVES. Use when handling textiles, photographs, documents, and artifacts, especially metal. Do not use on slippery surfaces or on loose surfaces. Gloves shrink when washed, but stretch back to original size.
WHITE COTTON THREAD. 2-ply. Top-quality Egyptian long-fiber cotton.
COTTON TAPE. (3/8") Tightly woven, recommended for fabric labels.
FILE FOLDERS. Acid and lignin free, pH 8.5, 3% calcium carbonate buffer. Straight cut, 1" reinforced top margin, rounded corners or half-cut. Letter size and legal size. High folding endurance and excellent tear resistance.
BLUE SCALE CARDS. Textile fading cards. Used as light fastness standards to monitor net exposure to light given to objects on display. Six pieces of wool cloth dyed with blue dyes of different degrees of fastness, mounted to a cardboard card. Cover one half of card; monitor changes to exposed surfaces of card.
POLYETHYLENE STORAGE SLEEVES. 2 mil, uncoated polyethylene. Open at one end. Use for postcards, stereo cards, photographs, documents, prints, magazines, comic books, sheet music, newspapers and small objects. Actual sizes: 3 5/8" x 5 1/2" ; 3 3/4" x 7 1/4"; 4 1/2" x 6 1/4"; 6 7/8" x 10 3/8"; 7 1/8" x 10 3/8"; 9 3/8" x 12 ¼"; 10 7/8" x 14 ¼" 12" x 19"; 20 3/8" x 24 1/4".
PHOTO POCKETS, POSTCARD POCKETS, TOP LOADERS. Clear polypropylene, no plasticizers. 4 pockets, each hold four, 3 x 5prints, two 5 x 7 prints, or 4 postcards back to back. Top loaders, 9 3/16" x 11 1/8" hold two photos or documents back to back. Hole-punched for 3-ring binders.
PAPER INSERTS. Off-white, 12 pt. lignin-free paper inserts. Use with top loaders in albums. Photographs and paper documents can be mounted with preformed mounting corners or paper corners. Passes P.A.T. test.
FLIP-TOP DOCUMENT BOXES. Tan. 5 5/8" x 7 1/2" x 12 1/4", 12 1/4" x 10 3/8" x 5", or 15 1/4" x 10 3/8" x 5". One-piece with hinged lid. Double thick bottom. pH 8.5 to 10.00, 3% calcium carbonate buffer. Lignin free. Reinforced metal corners.
